The Challenge:
Replace an informally evolved web site serving a combined audience of Palo Alto Unified School District employees and community members with a formal, public site for the District.
Following an intensive Discovery Workshop, CTD and PAUSD personnel reallocated site content so the new site supports only those materials of interest to the public. All employee-related information was transferred to a new intranet site concurrently in development. New navigation focuses on three primary user groups – students, parents, and the local community – in order to minimize the effort required to locate information relevant to each audience. The design expands on this local focus, using a polished look and feel to convey the District's "Excellence by Design" mission within the immediate community, while standing as an example to watchers the world over that PAUSD is a leader in its field.

Section overview pages (above) briefly summarize resources within the section and give users fast access to frequently requested materials through text links, while information design was applied to all pages to enhance the readability and comprehension of the content.
